My regard for Steve Oberman began in High School, when I felt his kindness towards me and my other class mates. We all went on to follow our life's paths, and my path didn't cross Steve's again until my late 20's. Once again, I was struck by his kindness, but also now, I learned about his conscience. He carried with him a Super STRONG one, which I think demanded from him an unyielding commitment to serve humanity. And then we lost touch, only to reconnect back in Saxton, as I met his beautiful wife and my family and he and his wife walked around the Cemetary by the High School. Here is where I was deeply moved by his devotion to a dear friend of his and classmate of ours, who passed away much too soon and in a heart breaking way. I was so touched to see how open, natural and honest Steve was with his feelings! That's when a realized what a spectacular minister he must be. A saw him just a few weeks ago at my dear friend's Mother's funeral, where Steve officiated. I thanked him for coming back to Saxton and serving this community to so faithfully. Instead of winding down towards retirement, he told me he felt drawn to go into service to help folks who are really suffering... That's when I realized that his heart had grown into that Masterful phase where there is so much love, it's like a river that can't be turned off. My regard and respect for Steve is now enormous! I feel SO blessed to have known him, and I want his family to know what a gift he was to all of us, and to send my deepest condolence to them.

I am so sorry to hear of your monumental loss. Steve, Vicki and the girls always made both church & home such warm, inviting places, open to any and all. The whole family has extended such great kindness and investment in community and people over the years, and while I have not kept in touch, I send my deepest condolences and prayers to Vicki, Jessica and Rachael. May you all find comfort in your countless wonderful memories, and some solace in knowing the profound impact Steve's life has had on, I'm sure, more people than you can count with all of your hands. My most sincere thoughts and prayers are with you all, and the extended friends and family.

November 21, 2017
I will always remember Steve's lead in pastoral service with its deep sincerity and meaningfulness as well as his graciousness at my mother's (La Fern Reed) funeral in 2010. He has made a significant contribution to the spiritual growth and well being of a great number of people by his ministry and modeling of Christ-centered behavior. Memory of the way he conducted his life will provide ongoing spiritual guidance to many of us. My deepest sympathy to his family, friends and congregation and God bless his soul, R. Reed, Los Angeles, CA.

To Vicki and family our prayers for comfort and strength are for you. Our family is deeply sadden to hear about Steve's death. He has always been a person who brought his caring best into a situation and served as the Christian example before others. Steve had that special assurance and understood what to do to encourage and support others. While at the Rapid City Police Department it was a special privilege to become Steve's friend. He loved talking about our Lord Jesus and the things of God. How wonderful to have such a godly husband, father and friend.

God bless your family. As you so well know, praise God, we will see Steve again in glory. I look forward to his winsome smile and hearing a story or two.
