Percy F. Miller, 94, passed away at the Homewood Rehab Facility in Martinsburg on Friday, October 20, 2017. He was a resident of Homewood at Spring House Estates in Everett.
He was born on June 28, 1923 in Clearville, PA, the son of the late Scott and Nettie (Ruby) Miller.
He is survived by a stepson, Jay Brodish, and his wife, Susan, as well as four grandchildren; Jay Brodish, Jr. (Susan), Rebecca Brodish (Jay Iannini), Jennifer Kooken (Jeffrey) and Amanda Brodish (Justin Schell); and seven great grandchildren, Olivia, Jack, Katherine, Connor, Claire, Alex and Matthew. He is also survived by a number of nephews and a niece and great nephews and a great niece. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ross, and his wife of more than 50 years, Joanne Miller, whom he lovingly cared for as her health declined.
He graduated from Everett High School in 1941. He served in the US Army during World War II, having been involved with the D-Day landing as well as surviving the Battle of the Bulge. He was the last surviving charter member of the Artemas American Legion. He was a member of the Bedford Elks for more than 60 years where he loved to play golf.
After his service time, he returned to Bedford County and his life-time profession of selling International Harvester trucks and farm equipment in Everett, Bedford, Indiana, Pittsburgh and Cumberland. He later drove a school bus to keep himself occupied.
Percy loved things that moved, over his life being a qualified pilot, a licensed large truck and school bus driver, and had several motorcycles as well as several classic vehicles.
He was a people person, interacting with his grandchildren where he became “Pappap Percy”. He greatly valued his friends throughout his life and enjoyed the companionship of many of the other residents at Homewood in his later years.
Friends and Family will be received on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 1-3:00 P.M. at the Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 4:30 P.M. at Homewood at Spring House Estates, 150 Victoria Avenue, Everett, PA 15537 with Rev. Jerry McCuller officiating.
Burial will be held privately at Everett Cemetery with full military honors by the Everett Area Honor Guard.
