Thomas L. Ritchey, 79, of Saxton, passed away on March 27, 2021 at home. He was born on September 2, 1941, a son of the late David Lloyd and Alvera Mae (Bequeth) Ritchey. On December 27, 1962 he married Linda K. (Hinish) at The Bald Hill Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife and the following children: David Lloyd married to Diane (Duvall) of Saxton, Dawn Annette married to William Walker of Saxton, and Darl Thomas married to Kimberly (Rupp) of Loysburg. Grandchildren: Natasha Ritchey, Christopher Foor, Adam Foor, Bryan Hite, Matthew Hite, Jason Ritchey, Nicole Smith, Colin Klotz, Melissa Jones, Jeffrey Walker, and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother-in-law: Tim Hinish married to Louise and his constant companion his dog “Andy”.
He was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law: Alonza "Bud" Ritchey and wife Marcella.
He graduated from Bedford High School class of 1959. He then attended Thadeus Stevens Trade School in Lancaster. He was a carpenter by trade. Tom worked at Seton, Hinish and Ritchey Construction, L.S. Lee, Pennsylvania Game Commission, Ed Hugg Construction and Sheetz as a job superintendent for 16 years until his retirement. He also worked part-time at Saxton Surplus and was caretaker of the St. Luke’s Cemetery for a number of years.
He was a member of The Raven Run Church of the Brethren where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, and board member. He was a leader for Boy Scout Troop #71 in Saxton for 15 years and a volunteer at Camp Blue Diamond. He also served on the board of trustees for The Breezewood Truckers/Travelers Ministry. He enjoyed spending time with family, hunting, assisting others with transportation to doctor’s appointments, being outdoors, fishing, woodworking, reading his Bible and collecting eagle memorabilia.
A funeral service will be held at the Raven Run Church of the Brethren on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Allen Baker and Pastor Craig Manges officiating.
Friends and Family may call at the church from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the church.
We ask that those in attendance follow CDC Guidelines with wearing a mask and social distancing.
Burial will be held at St. Luke's Cemetery.
If friends so desire memorial contributions may be made in memory of Thomas to Saxton Ambulance Division, Six Mile Run Volunteer Fire Company or the Southern Cove Volunteer Fire Company.
