Romualdas "Rom" Kalinauskas Obituary

On Saturday, March 23, 2024, Romualdas “Rom” J. Kalinauskas, 77, of Clearville, Pa., passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family.

Rom leaves behind his wife, Nora (Gast), of 33 years, and his children: Andrew Kalinauskas, married to Brooke (Magnus); Frank Fernandez, married to Shelly (Clingerman); Nicole (Fernandez), married to Matthew Custer; Lindsay (Kalinauskas), married to Michael McConahy; Jaime (Fernandez), married to Kurt Hooks; and Lara (Kalinauskas), married to Gary Osler. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Emma Kate, Drew, Evan, and Aaron; Mya and Charley; Leah and Nicholas; Grace and Colin; and Anele.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Andrius and Birute (Gelgudaite) Kalinauskas, and one brother, Raymond Kalinauskas, who passed away in June 2004.

Rom was born on August 4, 1946, in Landshut, Germany, and came to the United States with his family when he was 3 years old. He graduated from Edmondson High School in Baltimore, Md., and attended Morgan State College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Continuing his educational journey, he completed a Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from Johns Hopkins University. Rom, a former member of the United States Air Force, received an honorable discharge in March 1965.

Rom dedicated 33 1/2 years to teaching at the Everett Area School District and retired as head teacher in 2005. He established and coached the Everett girls’ varsity soccer team for 44 years, retiring in 2022. Additionally, he owned and operated Knight Gems and Jewelry in Everett for 17 years, which later became one of his retirement pastimes. He was respected by his colleagues for his dedication and support, earning their admiration and trust. The loss of Rom leaves a void in the lives of all who knew him, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rom was a beloved husband who cherished his family above all else. His dedication to his loved ones was unwavering, always putting their needs before his own. As a father, Rom served as a guiding light, offering love, support, and wisdom to his children throughout their lives. His impact will endure through the wisdom he shared and the lessons he imparted. He will always be remembered for his kindness, love, warmth, and sense of humor.

Rom enjoyed soccer, camping, traveling, working with gemstones, and, most importantly, spending time with his family.
