John Szabocsik Sr. Obituary

John F. Szabocsik, Sr. 103, passed away on Monday, November 23, 2020 at Colonial Courtyard.  He was born on October 10, 1917 in Rahway, NJ; a son of the late John and Julia (Varadi) Szabocsik.

He is survived by son John (Jack) F. Szabocsik, Jr. married to Bettsy; granddaughters Tracy Sposato married to Bob; Debbie Reinitz married to Rich; Christy Mariani married to Aaron; great grandchildren Kylie, Lexi, Leah, Robby, Rocco, Richie, Reese, Jack, Sean; and great great grandson Jaxon.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jeanette (Heal) Szabocsik in 2004.

John served during World War II as a member of the armed guard (Army) aboard the Queen Mary which was used as troop transport. He traveled around the world in that capacity visiting many ports of call.

After the war, he worked in printing. Following his retirement, he went back to work for the Post Office in Keyport, NJ.

John and Jeannette lived in Union Beach, NJ before retiring to Deerfield Beach, Fl. They moved back to NJ, and John eventually moved with his son to Six Mile Run, PA. He relocated to Colonial Courtyard Bedford, PA in 2019, where he resided until his death.

He was a Past Master at Caesarea Masonic Lodge, Keyport, NJ, Past Grand Chaplain and a Past District Deputy Grand Master.

He loved spending time with his family, fishing off his boat in Raritan Bay and cooking.

John was loved and respected by many and will be missed by his family, many friends as well as the staff and residents at Colonial Courtyard whom he entertained with his harmonica playing. When greeted with “It’s good to see you” his response was always, “It’s good to be seen!” Rest in peace, until we meet again.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
