Jay Mosholder Obituary

Jay Dee Mosholder, 83, of Everett has become “out of body and with the Lord” on September 26, 2022.  Jay died in his home surrounded by family and his pup.

Born to Alice and Charles Mosholder on August 11, 1939, he went to Everett High School where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife of 62 years, Carol Hoover.  After high school graduation in 1957 he served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years spending time in Greenland and Nebraska.  He returned home to marry Carol, and together they had 4 children.  While living in the Tysons Corner area of Virginia he began a successful, 30-year career at Amoco Oil where he was able to retire early due to his hard work and planning.

Jay and his 6 siblings grew up on the family farm where his love of farming and animals began. While in Virginia he also operated Swinks Mill Stables in McLean, sharing his great joy of horses with family and friends.  Involved with farming throughout his life, he continued into retirement while living in Everett.  Jay later took up the hobby of breeding dogs, and could always be seen with a dog following closely at heel.  He was adored by both person and animal alike.

Jay had a perpetually grateful heart and would always speak of his life’s blessings, the biggest of which he considered to be his wife and family.  Jay had many good friends and he never hesitated to do a favor for a neighbor in need.  Jay prided himself on living simply and within his means as a good steward of his blessings.  He approached all things in his life with care – from finances to relationships.  He was generous with his time, and he believed that “to have a good neighbor is to be a good neighbor.”

Jay is survived by wife, Carol Mosholder and their 4 children, Charles Mosholder and wife Linda, Susie Kesner and husband Jeff, Janice Strouth and husband Richard, and Sherri Mosholder, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, his sisters Joyce Trail, Ruthann Grimes, and brothers Glen, Arthur, John, and Harold Mosholder.

There will be a Celebration of Jay’s Life at the First Christian Church Social Room on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 11:00 A.M.
