Obituary

James A Bulger Sr.  ​Born October 7, 1950 – Died June 9, 2022

Born in Saxton, the son of Mark H. Bulger Jr. and Rosalind (Furry) Bulger.  Jim was married to Pamela Masood Bulger on August 31, 1975.  Pam preceded him in death on May 1, 2008.  Survived by a son James A. Bulger Jr. and girlfriend Marcy Lemin both of Saxton.  Also, a sister Kathy Bulger Stryk, wife of Donald Stryk (deceased) of Mathis, Texas.  

Jim graduated from Tussey Mountain High School in 1968.  In 1969 he graduated from the Institute of Computer Management.  Later in 1969 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy spending 4 years of service in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. 

In 1973 he began working for his father at Bulger’s Jewelry Store in Saxton.  In 1976 he purchased the store along with asecond store in Martinsburg.  In later years he also owned and operated stores in Bedford and Roaring Spring.  Working in the jewelry business for 40 years, he retired in 2013.

Jim was an Eagle Scout with Troop 71 in Saxton, receiving his God and Country Award; one of the highest honors in scouting, a member of the Everett Masonic Lodge F.&A.M. No. 524, formerly serving as past master; a member of The Pennsylvania Jewelers Association, serving as both secretary and treasurer of the organization.  Additionally, he was a member of the Loysburg Rod and Gun Club acting as the current president, a Lifetime Member of the Saxton Volunteer Fire Company, the Saxton VFW, and Lifetime Member of the Saxton Sportsman’s Club.

During the fall and winter months hunting was his passion and felt peace while in the woods with all of God’s creations.  While in the Spring and Summer, he spent most of his time on the golf course, particularly his home course of Iron Master’s Country Club, where he was also a member.  

Friends and Family will be received at Akers Funeral Chapel, 715 Church Street, Saxton on Monday, June 13th  from 11:00-1:00.  Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM with Pastor Jill Clawson officiating. 

Everett Masonic Lodge will conduct services at 12:45.

Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery with military honors by the Broad Top Area Honor Guard.
