Jack Melius Obituary

Jack Melius, 87, of Sherlock Road, Saxton, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at the Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg, PA.  He was born on August 10, 1932 in Six Mile Run, PA; a son of the late John and Gaynell (Shaffer) Melius.  On September 4, 1954 in Winchester, VA; he was united in marriage to Lou Ann (Brown) Melius.  She preceded him in death on February 21, 2009.  He is survived by two children Jackie married to Dan White, Saxton and Terry Melius married to Lynne (Browne) Cambridge, MD; grandchildren Angie married to Shane Deitzler, Trinity, FL; Kristy Williams and fiancé Michael Duvall, Robertsdale, PA and Alex Melius married to Brandy, Martinsburg, WV; great grandchildren Zoie Deitzler, Orion Deitzler, Bo Isett, Regan Isett, Fabian Melius and Tristan Melius; siblings Richard Melius, Hopewell, PA; Mike Melius, Hopewell; Edward Melius, Hopewell; Donna Manges, New Enterprise; Dottie Long, Six Mile Run; Gladys Long, Martinsburg; Marlene McCabe, DE; and Susie White, Six Mile Run.

He was preceded in death by siblings Frank Melius, Carl Melius, Joe Melius, Jimmy Melius, Harry Melius, Frances Miller and Mary Burton.

Mr. Melius was of the Protestant Faith.

He was a graduate of Saxton-Liberty High School Class of 1951.  He went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955 during the Korean War.  He earned the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Korean Service Medal.  After the service he worked on various farms and then started working at the Saxton Bottling Plant where he worked for Pepsi Co. for over thirty years.

Jack was a family man. Being with his children, grandchildren and wife made him happiest.   He was fond of camping, fishing, building and fixing things, watching sports and helping others.  He and his wife were known for their homemade apple butter.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. 

Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 13, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Akers Funeral Chapel with Pastor Linda Banaszak officiating. 

Friends may call at Akers Funeral Chapel, 715 Church Street, Saxton, PA, on Friday, March 13, 2020 from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the funeral chapel.  At Mr. Melius’s request there will be a closed casket.

Burial will be held at Dudley Methodist Cemetery, Dudley with full military honors being held by the Broad Top Area Honor Guard.
