Guy Akers Obituary

Guy Alvin Akers, 79, of Big Creek Road, Clearville, PA; went home to be with the Lord and reunite with his wife on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. Born on August 9,1942 in Tall Timbers, VA; son of the late Herbert and Ella (Ferne) Mills Akers.

On April 27,1968 in Cedar Grove Church in Dott, PA; he was united in marriage, to the love of his life and best friend; Dorothy Ann (Layton) Akers who preceded him in death in 2020. They were happily married for 53 years.

Guy is survived by three children; Todd Akers married to Tracie (Clingerman), Clearville, PA, Nicole Houston married to Patrick, Clearville, PA and Amy Duggan married to Joseph, Clearville, PA., nine wonderful grandchildren; Mahlon, Macen and Malex Akers. Olivia and Vivian Houston. Ella, Anna, Ethan, and Stetson Duggan, two special siblings; sisters Jeanni Moyer married to David and Judy Akers both of Hagerstown, MD. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Charles, and sister, Reta married to the late Donald Robinette, Morgantown, WV.

Guy was a 1958 graduate of Everett Area High School and a 1960 graduate of the Pennsylvania School of Technology. He was employed with Klahre’s Logging in Clearville, PA before becoming an equipment operator. He worked on many road construction projects and helped to construct the Bloomington Dam. Along with his uncle, Bob Akers, he started what would become a major part of his legacy, Akers Excavation, which has been in existence for over four decades. Akers Excavation has been a success due to his strong work ethic and keen business sense.

Guy was a hardworking man who enjoyed life. He was proud of the family and the legacy that he created. “Digging” in the dirt with his son and grandsons was not only his job, but one of his greatest joys. He always said, “Find something you love to do, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” He truly did find that in the life that he lived, from the farm to the business he built, to his family.

He was a loving father and pap as well as a devoted husband. A good friend to many and a strong Christian that led by his faith, a genuinely good man.  As many have said, “He was one of the good ones!”

Guy enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s numerous sporting events, meals, and campfires at his children’s homes, and fixing anything that was broken.  “Daddy’s Hands” never found a project or a problem that he couldn’t fix—"No job was too large or too small.”

Guy had a strong faith in the Lord. He attended services at the Bethel Christian Church, Clearville, PA. Friends and family will be received on Thursday, January 27th at Akers’ Funeral Home from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, January 28th  from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at Akers Funeral Home on Friday, January 28th at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Todd Jay officiating. Burial will be held at Shreves Chapel Cemetery, Clearville, PA. Fellowship and meal will follow at Bethel Christian Church, Clearville, PA.
