Gary Tewell Obituary

Gary R. Tewell, 82, of Everett, PA; passed through the gates of Heaven on the evening of Monday, November 28, 2022.  It was his wish to be able to pass at home surrounded by his family and thankfully we were able to honor that wish.  He was born on November 22, 1940 in Chaneysville, PA; son of the late Floyd and Mae Tewell.  On March 18, 1966 he was united in marriage to Shirley (Alt) Tewell.  Along with his wife of fifty-six years, he is survived by his sons Jerry and Brian Tewell and daughter Crista and two grandsons who were the apple of his eye, CJ Tewell (Sierra) and Cameron Tewell and one special great-grandson Eastyn Tewell all of Chaneysville.  He is also survived by a brother Jimmie Tewell married to Etta Mae; nieces Brenda Robinette married to Richard; Sherry Means married to Rick and nephews Greg Tewell, Monte Willison, Danny Alt and Andrew Alt; cousins Rex Bennett and Tommy Tewell married to Anne; brother-in-law Bobby Alt and significant other Nancy Dawson; Linda Alt and various great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both parents; one brother Tommy Tewell; in-laws Eston and Nora Alt and sister-in-law Betty Willison.

After graduation from Everett Area High School in 1958 he joined the United States Army from 1963-1967 with his best friend Raymie Barthalow on the buddy system.  After basic training they didn’t see one another for eighteen months.  He was stationed in France and Raymie in Korea, “Some buddy-system” Gary would say.  After being honorable discharged from the army on January 31, 1967 he worked for VanHessen Lumber Company which changed to Blue Triangle Lumber Company in the import and export of logs and lumber.

Dad was without a doubt the most kind, gentle, honest and loyal man.  There was nothing more important to him than his family; he was truly our hero.  Before he passed he told each of us how much he loved us and what we meant to him and we were all able to tell him how important he was to all of us.    We are so thankful we were able to have him for as long as we did and he will forever be in our hearts.  His love for his grandsons was endless, he was so proud of them.
