Clayton Allen Mattern, Jr.

Clayton Allen Mattern, Jr., 48, of Butler Lane, James Creek, PA; passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at UPMC Altoona Hospital.  He was born on October 19, 1971 in Roaring Spring, PA a son of Clayton Allen Mattern Sr. of Etters, PA and Barbara E. (Berkey) Mattern, Roaring Spring, PA.  On July 5, 2012 in Huntingdon, PA; he was united in marriage to his life companion of twenty five years Patti A. (Johnston) Mattern.

Along with his parents and wife, he is survived by step son Eric Johnston and significant other Nichole (Shope), granddaughter Peyton Johnston; four sisters, Briana Mattern, Ocean City, MD, Diana Stiffler, Clearville, PA, Dana Mattern, New Port Ritchey, FL, and Christina Fields, Oldsmar, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents John H. and Betty Berkey and paternal grandparents Clayton James and Anna Elizabeth “Betty” Mattern.

Allen was employed at Appvion in Roaring Spring.  He was a graduate of Central High School Class of 1990.  He enjoyed the outdoor life, hunting, fishing, biking, canoeing and kayaking. 

He enjoyed spending time with friends and family and four wheeling with his Toyota trucks.  Allen had a love for animals especially his Charlie, Abby and Sierra Sue.

Friends and Family may call at the Woodcock Valley Bible Church, 16412 Raystown Rd, James Creek, PA 16657 on Friday from 11:30 A.M. until the hour of service at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Barry Yingling officiating.  We ask that those in attendance would follow CDC guidelines by wearing a mask and following social distancing.

Burial will be held privately at Russellville Methodist Cemetery.
