Betty Baughman Obituary

Betty Jean (Brown) Baughman, 100 years young, passed to her heavenly home at The Village of Morrisons Cove on Thursday morning, November 25, 2021 with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Harrison Township, Bedford County on May 28, 1921.  She was the eighth of fourteen children born to Kie E. and Jessie (Whetstone) Brown.  She was the last surviving member of her family.  Betty was a 1938 graduate of Manns Choice High School.

After graduation she moved to Saxton where she was employed as a clerk at Clifton Bowser’s Store in Stonerstown and as a telephone operator in Saxton during World War II.

She was united in marriage on her 25th birthday to Ross A. “Pete” Baughman.  They were three weeks short of sixty-one years when Pete preceded her in death on May 6, 2007.  They were the parents of five children: Dennis (the late Vickie Brown) Beaver, PA; Donald (Jacqui) Coopersburg, PA; David (Nancy) James Creek, PA; Jennie, Saxton, PA and Annie, Saxton, PA; four grandchildren, Dennis Baughman, Jr., Nicole (Rob) Stoudt, Christopher (Jennifer) Baughman and Emily (Kevin) Crutchfield; Great-grandchildren: Noah Stoudt, Sarah Stoudt, Haden Crutchfield, Levi Crutchfield and Aurora “Rory” Baughman; Step Grandchildren David (Ashley) Perone and Carrie (Jason) Okken; Step great-grandchildren Savannah Heaton, Payton Perone and Penelope Perone; Many nieces and nephews, and special niece, Mae “Tootsie” Cross, who was like a daughter to her.

She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Vickie Joyce; brothers Kie, Jr., Victor, Glenn and Ken; sisters Hilda Hillegas, Anna Tucker, Norma Huntsman and Emily Everhart; as well as five infant siblings and step grandson Joey Manspeaker, III.

Betty was a stay-at-home mom until going to work at the Tussey Mountain School Cafeteria, retiring in 1982.  She continued her hobby of baking cinnamon rolls, cakes, pies, cookies and wedding cakes in the Saxton/Broad Top area, and was well known for her homemade confections.  In her later years she enjoyed quilting, having made quilts for all of her family.  She enjoyed spending time with her family; dog “Roxie” and cats “Marlee” and “Tucker”. Betty was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates Fan.

Betty was a longtime member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Saxton.  She was a member of Women’s Sunday School Class and Mite Society.

The family wishes to thank her longtime home aide, Rhonda Smith, and the staff at The Village of Morrisons Cove for their loving care these past few years.
