Albert Masood Obituary

Albert N Masood (age 97) of 801 Jade Circle Martinsburg, PA, was born on July 7, 1924 in Defiance PA at the home of his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. George McMillan. He was raised in Six Mile Run, PA the son of Mary (McMillin) and Albert Masood.  He graduated from Broad Top High School in 1942 and following that enlisted in the US Navy Air Corps.  He was discharged in 1945 from the Naval Air Station, Norfolk Virginia First Class Aviation Mechanic Mate.  After the war, he assisted his parents in their general store business in Six Mile Run.  After his father ‘s death in 1950 he attended Juniata College and later transferred to Eckels College in Philadelphia. Upon graduation he served his apprenticeship at Robert E Huff Funeral Chapel in Saxton.   On April 8, 1954 he purchased the funeral chapel and ran it for 33 years, until his retirement in November 1987. During the early years, he operated the only ambulance service in the Broad Top area for 29 years.  

Al believed in public service.  He served as President of the Broad Top Chamber of Commerce, the Fundraising Chairman for the Bucks for Building and served as Chairman of Operation Survival raising the seed money that was used to develop the industrial park and attract the Seton Company which employed a couple thousand people throughout the area for over 30 years 

He was Past President of the Lions Club and received the Melvin Jones Award and The Boss of the Year Award from the Saxton Jaycees.  Al was a Life Member and Past Commander of the Six Mile Run American Legion Post 976 where he received an award for 70 consecutive years as a member of the Legion.    He was a life member of the VFW Post 4129 in Saxton and proudly served in the Broad Top Area Honor Guard.     Al was Past Master of Everett Masonic Lodge and recently received his 70-year membership award.   He was a member of the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona and the Saxton United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday school superintendent for 29 years.  

He is survived by the love of his life, Nancy J. Tenley.  They were united in marriage on August 28, 1954 by Rev. David Garland in the Winchester VA United Methodist Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters. Ruth Walters, Edith Koontz and Louise Makdad.   He is survived by his sister, Betty Tenley and his three wonderful children Alecia (Joseph) Addink of Hollidaysburg PA, Melissa (Tony) Sheffy of Southington CT and Albert N Masood II (Elsa Hite) of Duncansville, PA and 7 grandchildren:  Jordan Casserino, Charliedan (Amy) Sheffy, Blair (Joe) Gianatti, Noah Sheffy, Austin Masood, Autumn Sheffy & Olivia Masood.  His legacy lives on in his many friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.  Albert’s life was a well lived tribute to his commitment to God, love for family, his country and community. He was the most inspiring husband, father, grandfather, friend and mentor to all that had the good fortune to know him.   

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made in Albert’s name to the Jaffa Shrine Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia, 3551 N Broad St, Philadelphia, PA 19140 or Tunnels to Towers, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.

Friends and Family will be received on Friday, November 19, 2021 from 6-8 P.M. at the Akers Funeral Chapel, 715 Church Street, Saxton, PA 16678 and on Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service.  A Masonic Service will be held at 6:15 P.M. on Friday evening.

Funeral Services will be held at Akers Funeral Chapel on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 2:00 P.M.  with Pastor Jill Clawson and Pastor Jerry McCullen, Jr. officiating.

Internment immediately after at Duvall Cemetery in Six Mile Run PA. with full military honors conducted by the Broad Top Area Honor Guard.
