Richard Zimmerman Obituary

Richard Alan Zimmerman, 73, passed away at WMHS Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 with all his loving family by his side.  He was born on June 23, 1945 in Everett; a son of the late Millard and Oleta (Hook) Zimmerman.

On May 24, 1969 he married Annabelle (Hedrick) Zimmerman, surviving along with the following children Lorie married to Madison Walters, III of Everett, Steven Zimmerman  married to Jody (Smith)  Zimmerman of Everett, Darron Zimmerman married to Christa (Mack) Zimmerman of Chambersburg, and Lisa married to Jared Nash of Ellwood City; grandchildren Meagan (Walters) Dzienis married to Nicholas of Groton, CT, Kyle Walters married to Alexandria (Abelstad) Walters of Columbia, MD, Abby and Gracie Walters, Benjamin Zimmerman, Madeleine, Vincent, and Julia Zimmerman, Porter and Griffin Nash; great-grandchildren Gabriel and Evelyn Dzienis and soon arriving Patrick Dzienis.

Also surviving is sister Gail Alewine married to Robert of Portsmouth, Virginia and sister-in-law Jean Zimmerman of Everett and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by brothers Marcus Zimmerman of North Carolina and Robert Zimmerman of Everett. 

He graduated from Everett High School, Class of 1963.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1965–1967, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter Rifle, National Defense Service Metal and Army of Occupation Metal in Berlin, also receiving soldier of the month in January 1967.

He was employed at Westinghouse – Bedford Materials for thirty-eight years, retiring in 2007.

He was a member of Chaneysville Methodist Church, now Chaneysville Community Church.

Dick enjoyed doing jig-saw puzzles, watching old westerns and taking his black lab Toby, for a run every morning on his four-wheeler but above all he loved his family and friends and he never saw a stranger, he could strike up a conversation with anyone.

Friends and Family will be received on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537 from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Reno and Pastor Mark Reno officiating.

Burial will be held at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Chaneysville, PA. with full military honors conducted by the Everett Area Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Richard to Mount Zion Cemetery Association in care of Gerald Trail, 197 Old Mill Lane, Clearville, PA 15535.
