Richard C. Miller, 83, of Everett, PA passed away July 5, 2019 at his home surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Born June 4, 1936 in Wolfsburg, he was the son of the late Alonzo Carl Miller and Anna Alice (Zimmers) Miller.
On October 5, 1963 at the First United Church of Christ in Everett, he married the former Connie Mellott and his death ends a marriage of over 55 years. Their marriage was blessed by two children, Jacalyn, wife of William Oravec, Jr. of Central City and Richard Todd Miller of Everett. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Matthew Oravec and his wife, Erica of Ramstein, Germany; Bradley Oravec and wife, Dana of LaVale, Maryland; Kristen Oravec of Central City; Steven, Andrew, and Alicia Miller, all of Everett.
Richard is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Virginia Carlson of Bedford, Joseph “Doc” Miller of Carlisle, Alice Burtnett of Everett, Thomas Miller of Manns Choice, and Patricia Diehl of Manns Choice. He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert, David “Bert”, Jerry, and an infant sister, Sandra.
A 1954 graduate of Bedford High School, Richard proudly served in the United States Army. Following his discharge from the Army, he worked for AT&T. He later returned to Bedford to join United Telephone System which subsequently merged with Sprint, retiring in 1997. Richard was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Everett. He served his church for several years as a Trustee and with his wife, Connie, taught Sunday School.
He was previously president of the Everett Burial Association. Richard was also a member of the Everett American Legion, Post 8. He also worked with the Snake Spring Recreation Council when his children were young.
Always up for an adventure, Richard loved to travel. He enjoyed camping with the Busy Bees Camping Club. He and Connie travelled to Hawaii, Alaska, and Nova Scotia following their retirements. Some of his favorite trips however, were to the North Carolina coast with his family. Nothing gave him greater joy than spending time with his grandchildren.
Richard never met a stranger. Many knew him as the gentle man with a pocket full of Tootsie Rolls to share with everyone he met. He enjoyed hunting, racing, woodworking, and shopping for antiques.
