Ned Zimmerman Obituary


Ned Zimmerman, 97, of Christian Street, Hopewell, PA; passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Hospital, Altoona.  He was born on August 24, 1921 in Riddlesburg, Pennsylvania; a son of the late Kiah and Mazie (Burket) Zimmerman.  On February 22, 1946 in the home of Rev. Charles Heltzel he was united in marriage to Mary Virginia (Keifman) Zimmerman.  She preceded him in death on July 31, 2006.
He is survived by two children Leslie married to Sandra (Smyers), Hopewell, PA and Cheryl married to Richard Weaver, Yellow Creek, PA; four grandchildren Joseph Zimmerman, Erica Kopera, Amy McGraw and Jennifer Nelson; eight great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Marcie Zimmerman and siblings Harold, Don, Bob, Ernest, Mona, Evelyn and Phyllis.


Ned was a graduate of Broad Top Township High School Class of 1940, he went on to serve in the United States Army during World War II as  Sergeant.  He was employed for Exxon as a manager of the service station on the Pennsylvania Turnpike for thirty-two years.


Ned was a member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Saxton V.F.W. Post 4129, Exxon Annuity Club, Hopewell Senior Center and a proud participate of the Broad Top Area Honor Guard.  In previous years Ned served on the Hopewell Borough Council, Northern Bedford County School Board and the Saxton Community Library Board.  


Friends and Family may call at the Akers Funeral Home, 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA on Monday, June 10, 2019 from 6-8 P.M. and on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Josh Beben officiating.
Burial will be held at the Yellow Creek Reformed Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Broad Top Area Honor Guard.
If friends so desire memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ned to the Hopewell United Methodist Church or the Hopewell Senior Center.
