Herbert E. Hillegas, 88, of Clearville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. He was born on March 7, 1930 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania; a son of the late John E. and Ella (Coughenour) Hillegas. He was the youngest and last surviving of six children being preceded in death by James Hillegas, Miriam Knepper, Elizabeth Schradel, Madeline Shumaker and Ella Mae Spence.
On February 25, 1952 he married Anna “Fran” (Weyer) Hillegas. She preceded him in death on March 2, 2016. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Mary Kunsman and grandson Matthew Hillegas, Jr. He is survived by six children Herbert M. Hillegas, Everett; Matthew Hillegas, Sr. married to Judy, Everett; Theresa married to Danny Mellott, Everett; Rebecca Hush, Everett; Julie married to Dennis Price, Clearville and Justin Hillegas married to Nicole; fifteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He served in the Korean War with the United States Army from 1951-1952. Herb drove truck for several companies including Eastern Express, Jones Motor, SAC Inc., H. Eugene Koontz and owned and operated H.E. Hillegas Trucking. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Everett, PA and was a member of Knights of Columbus.
Friends and Family will be received on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 4-8 P.M. at Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road Everett, PA 15537.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 161 E 1st Ave, Everett, PA 15537 with Father Derek Fairman officiating.
Burial will be held at Everett Cemetery.
