Gilbert M. “Uncle Gil” Ross, 94, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Colonial Courtyard, Bedford, PA. He was born in Tyrone, PA on August 12, 1924; son of the late Gilbert P. and Effie M. (Dixon) Ross. He married the love of his life, Mary Anne (Watters) Ross in Buffalo, New York on October 28, 1945. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2015.
He is survived by two sisters-in-law Ruth Ross, Soddy Daisy, TN and Doris Ruggles, Saxton, PA; brother-in-law Joe Manzo, West Palm Beach, FL; cousins William Ross, Manns Choice, PA, Josephine Edwards, Huntingdon, PA, Phyllis Dixon, Reedsville, NC, and Ruth Reed, Adamstown, MD; special nieces and nephews Tim Ross, Soddy Daisy, TN, Deb Ross, Soddy Daisy, TN, Barbara Williams, Lodi, CA, Ken Ross, Erie, PA, Marilyn Burnell, Texarkana, TX, Mary Jewell, Erie, PA, Gary Burch, Cuba, NY, Tom Burch, Friendship, NY, Denny Brege, Cuba, NY, Cheryl Bollinger, Dudley, PA, Teresa Allison, Saxton, PA, Adam Black, Saxton, PA, Sheila Crust, Bellefonte, PA, Christina Surdell, Estero, FL, and Cynthia Manzo, Buffalo, NY. He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews and great, great-great nieces and nephews
Gilbert was preceded in death by brothers Dale Ross, Myrl Ross and a sister Shirley Brege.
During his career Gil worked as a Quality Control Manager for Sylvania, Brunswick and the Lane Furniture Company.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant on a B26 Bomber. He was a recipient of a Purple Heart and other meritorious service medals.
Gil was a genuinely good person, always cheerful, with a wonderful smile, never complaining and sincerely concerned for the well-being of others. He was especially fond of the Pennsylvania mountains, the changing seasons, and all creatures large and small.
He loved the Lord Jesus and his extended family, and large church family. He attended Time Ministries in Bedford, PA, with his sidekick, Larson Allison and great-great-niece Saige Allison
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 5-6 P.M. at Akers Funeral Home, Inc. 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537.
Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 6:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Stultz.
