Duane D. Barkman

Duane Delano Barkman, 81, of Frame Church Road, Clearville, PA; passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital, Everett, PA.  He was born on July 31, 1937; a son of the late Donald O. and Gladys A. (Means) Barkman.  On August 13, 1955 in Cumberland, Maryland; he married Betty J. (Morris) Barkman, a union of sixty-three years.

Along with his wife he is survived by children Montie W. Barkman married to Judy, Clearville, PA; Connie K. married to Kent Cornell, Clearville, PA; Cherie A. married to Kevin Grimes, Clearville, PA; five grandchildren Dustin Barkman, Justin Grimes married to Brandi, Wesley Grimes married to Alicia, Kyle Cornell married to Heather and Kayla married to Dustin Wilson; eight great-grandchildren; brothers Gerald D. Barkman married to Mary, Thomas V. Barkman married to Cindy; and many nieces and nephews.

Duane was preceded in death by an infant brother and sister.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Clearville, PA where he sang in the choir, served as Sunday school superintendent, church treasurer, and church council for a number of years.  He helped with numerous remodeling projects at the church. Duane was president of the Clearville Area Churches, the Clearville Union Church and Cemetery Association, where he took care of the opening and closing of the graves.  He was past President and board member of the Fletcher Cemetery Association. 

Duane was a member of the Everett Masonic Lodge F. & A. M. No. 524, the Harrisburg Consistory, and the Altoona Jaffa Shrine.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman, especially enjoying hunting out West and fishing in Canada. 

Along with his wife Betty, they owned and operated Barkman’s Plumbing and Heating for over 31 years before retiring in 1999.

He was a graduate of Everett Area High School Class of 1955.

Friends and Family may call at the Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 from 4-8 P.M. and on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at the Akers Funeral Home, with Pastor Lyle Mellott and Lay Speaker Robbie Roland officiating. 

Burial will be held privately at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Clearville, PA.
