Dorothy Showalter, age 84, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.
She was born on August 26, 1935, in Hopewell, PA, the daughter of Glenn Foor and Faye (Bollman) Foor.
On August 26, 1958, she was united in marriage to Alvin E. Showalter who proceeded her in death on October 17, 1982.
She is survived by her sons Shawn P. Showalter and wife Dolly Showalter of Everett, Colin B. Showalter of Hopewell and a granddaughter Makenna J. Showalter of Hopewell.
Dorothy was employed as a nurse’s aide at Bedford County Memorial Hospital during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. During the 1950’s she was employed as a clerk at the Elmer ‘Mike’ Morrison general store in Yellow Creek and as a switchboard operator with Bell Telephone in Everett.
She loved growing flowers, working outside in the yard, and working in her flower beds where she would grow unique iris hybrids. She enjoyed watching Penguins Hockey and was a Penn State Football fan.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 2:30 P.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home, 299 Raystown Road, Everett with Pastor John Bennett officiating.
Burial will be held privately at Yellow Creek Reformed Cemetery.
