Frederick Glenn Heffner, 84, passed away on March 14, 2017 at the home of his daughter, Lori Schwartz, in Telford, PA.  He was born on June 12, 1932 to Fay and Glenn Heffner in Saxton, PA.

Fred was a 1950 graduate of Saxton Liberty High School and he loved attending his annual class reunions.  He attended the University of Maryland on a football scholarship and played on their National Championship team in 1953.  He also played in the Sugar Bowl and the Orange Bowl.  He was a pilot in the USAF Air Defense Command serving on active duty and reserves from 1954 to 1965. He attained the rank of Captain.  Fred spent over 58 years working in the ice cream and dairy industry and will be greatly missed by many.  He refused to retire and continued to work as a consultant to ice cream companies into his 84th year.

Fred was united in marriage to Hazel Irene Worthing on December 19, 1954 at the Raven Run Church of the Brethren in Saxton, PA.  They enjoyed a happy 54 year marriage until her passing on April 30, 2009.  Fred was an avid deer hunter for 71 seasons and enjoyed his hunting camp in Huntingdon County for the past 28 years.  He also loved football, especially following the teams coached by his son Bob and watching his grandsons play in high school.

Fred was an extremely loving and generous father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He was always there for his family when anyone needed him. He is survived by his four children, Bob Heffner and his wife Nancy, Don Heffner and his wife Diane, Lisa Remai and her husband Wayne and Lori Schwartz and her husband Dan.  He was always proud of his ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  They are Bobby Heffner and his wife Amanda, Katie Bisci and her husband Kris and their baby daughter Emery, Matt Heffner and his wife Sarah, Molly Heffner, Sean Remai, Shelby Heffner, Alex Remai, Joshua Clark and his fiancée Lauren Zirkelbach, Taylor Clark and Samantha Remai.

In addition to his wife, Hazel, he was proceeded in death by his parents, Fay and Glenn Heffner, along with his brother, Thomas W. Heffner and his sister, Anna Margaret Haney.

Family and Friends may call at the Akers Funeral Chapel, 715 Church Street, Saxton, PA on Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 6-8 P.M. and on Monday, March 20th from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 11:00 at the Akers Funeral Chapel with Pastor James Lynn and Lay Speaker James Snyder officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
