Doris Norris Obituary

Doris Louise (Bayer) Norris, age 89, died peacefully on Feb. 1, 2018, at UPMC Hospital in Bedford.

She was proceded in death by her husband Kermit on Oct. 10, 2017, just prior to their 70th wedding anniversary, mother Dorothy (Foor) Bayer Conner, father Robert Bayer, stepfather Marl Conner and grandson Kevin Johnston.

Born in Everett on August 16, 1928, she was the daughter of Robert Bayer and Dorothy (Foor) Bayer Conner. She graduated from Everett High School in 1946.

Doris worked for a year at the local (Lion) sewing factory for a year and then at Sponsler's Grocery Store over a period of several decades. She was very fond of Aunt Helen (Foor) and husband Fred Sponsler. As a devoted homemaker and great cook, she took much pride in her peanut butter fudge, apple pies and famous macaroni and cheese. She spent much time with her aunts Gen (Foor) Wilt and Helen (Foor) Sponsler, with whom she enjoyed ceramics classes for nearly 15 years. A very special person during her life was Patty (Foor) Swift who, although a cousin, always regarded as a sister. She was also very close to Aunt Betty (Foor) Lashley who called her frequently, especially during her hip surgery recovery. Her many years of exercising with Silver Sneakers was also quite enjoyable. Doris was meticulous in the organization and cleanliness of her house which was built by husband Kerm in the early 1950s. She was a member of the former Tecumseh Methodist Church, now the Everett United Methodist Church.

Some of her favorite pastimes were reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing yahtzee, chinese checkers, cooking and watching old television shows. Going shopping in Altoona or Johnstown was another experience which she often enjoyed with her mother Dorothy and grandmother Estella Foor.

She is survived by her three children: Kermit M. Norris (& Luci Steele) of Lancaster, PA, J. Kirby Norris of Everett and Kathy J. Norris of University Place, WA; by three grandchildren; Courtney J. Norris & husband Alex Burnett of San Francisco, CA, Shawna Norris of Bedford, and Kris Johnston of Tacoma, WA. Her great grandchildren include August and Vaughan Burnett of San Francisco and Gage Johnston of University Place, WA. She is also survived by her brother in law Raymond C. Norris and wife Pearl of Ventura, CA.
