Obituary for Matthew Hillegas
Matthew Weyer Hillegas, Jr., 36, of Everett passed peacefully in his sleep the morning of July 1, 2013 to courageously enter the next chapter of life. Matthew, son of Matthew W., Sr. and Judy E. Hillegas, who was always in a hurry, abruptly entered this life on earth on August 24, 1976 in Chambersburg, PA and plunged head on into life. “Hilly”, as he became known to all, lived life to its fullest enjoying every minute, whether at work or with family and friends. His greatest joys were his two daughters, Paige M. Hillegas and Marissa A. Hillegas. He had recently become engaged to his best friend, Melissa A. Hanyok.
In addition to his parents, daughters, and fiancé, Matthew is survived by two sisters: Cara Anne, married to Cordell P. Ebersole of Martinsburg and Kristen Ella, married to T. Matthew Chase of Murfreesboro, TN. His nieces and nephews, whom he adored teasing, include: Xavier Ryan Maslowski, Noelle Riley Ebersole, Nadia Renee Ebersole, and Thomas Joseph Chase. He was eagerly anticipating the birth of another nephew, Lucas Matthew Chase. His paternal grandparents, Herbert E. and A. Frances Hillegas of Everett also survive. His maternal grandparents, who preceded him in death from this life on earth, were Robert W. and R. Carol Hill of Bedford. Matthew also has many loving aunts and uncles: Herbert M. Hillegas of Everett, Theresa and Danny Mellott of Colorado Springs, CO, Rebecca Hush of Everett, Julie and Dennis Price of Clearville, Justin and Nicole Hillegas of Everett and Jeffrey Hill of Chambersburg. He was preceded in death by one aunt, Mary Kunsman of Everett. Matthew is also survived by 12 cousins.
Matthew graduated from Everett Area High School in 1994. He worked for Smith Transport in Roaring Spring, first in Mechanicsburg, then at their Bedford Warehouse. He left Smith Transport as their warehouse and logistics manager in 2011 to work for the family business that he would one day lead, Hillegas Trucking.
Family and Friends will be received on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Akers Funeral Home, 299 Raystown Road, Everett from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 9 P.M. and on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Debi Decker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to the fund set up at Hometown Bank, 306 W Main St, Everett, PA for his children, Paige and Marissa.
